Dangerous Outbreak

Terrible news from Miami Animal Control. They had been experiencing an outbreak and were closed for adoptions, last week. Ten dogs were found this morning (not alive). A couple had a minor cough yesterday, nothing else noted. A strain of strep bacteria was found in all their mouths. Suggestions: after I go to the shelter or to pull from AC, I always enter thru the laundry room, clothes go right into washer and beeline for the shower. When at dog events, have and use the waterless sanitizer; when interacting with a lot of dogs you do not know, personally. I am not a germophobe, but you never know what you might bring home. Better safe, than sorry. |

Iwas thinking about that today. I always wash my hands but when I come in the aussies are sniffing me all over and we have one sick dog. Have to be more careful. |

Sometime in the last 16 hours I saw a post on MDS that a dog has strep. I didn’t read the details, but I was surprised because I didn’t know a dog could get strep. Now I can’t find the post. If anyone knows who this is, please please tell the owner how serious step can be. |

This has all the vets mystified. To have come on so quickly and deadly. Had never heard dogs could get strep, either! |

This is such a heartbreak. I am so sad reading about it. I hope they find the cause and cure it. SOON!!! |

I hope they resolve it quick too!, thats where we rescued Mutsy, and where we take the dogs to get their rabies shots, this is the first time reading about this. |
