my neighbor was telling me he gives his Yorkie egg every once in a while, and i heard a lot of other owners also do, w/o the yolk...what are your thoughts on feeding them eggs, every once in a while...

There was a huge discussion on Answers (yahoo) on this. Some said only the raw yolk, some said only raw white; others said only hard boiled.....If you are feeding a good holistic food, know that any added protein sources are going to throw off the balance.

Sierra gets an egg, probably once a week at least. It's always cooked all the way thru however. She loves it and I've asked her doctor and he has no problems with it. Egg also helps with the shine in their coat too.
Usually when she gets an egg, it's either scrambled or fried, (in spray) and a couple of beggin strips.

Beware of hardboiled egg - nothing like the sulphury smell of one "repeating" from either end!
While it sounds like a cute "bacon n eggs" idea, please read the ingredients of anything you give your pets. They rely on us to feed them healthy foods and treats.
Nic - plain yogurt? Avoid sugar ;-)

she only eats the nutro treats, or all natural ones that i buy at a bakery... sometimes canine carry-outs treats... but very rarely... and yes it was plain yogurt, no sugar... she absolutely loved it... :D

I don't advise raw egg anymore, unless you are certain they are not contaminated with salmonella. Most raw eggs are these days. Dogs can get food poisoning just like we can....and they don't use the toilet to barf or poop, either! Ewwww!

I give Abigail a raw egg yolk only once in awhile when I am baking and need a bunch of whites and have leftover yolks. She is on Millenia Solid Gold Dog Food. She has never had a problem but I do it only on rare occasions.

Wow most people I know give their dogs a raw egg through their food once a week!!
It is fantastic for a shiny coat on my friends Cocker Spaniel and I've yet to hear of any problems from anyone.
I live in Australia and thankfully we don't have trouble with salmonella in our eggs!!(not that I'm aware of anyway)

Dogs and cats shed the salmonella virus. They can't contract it. However they can carry it and pass it to the 2LS
