In light of Zack's collection trauma ;-) I thought it might be helpful to post a how-to. Make sure your pet had enough water that s/he will HAVE to "go". Walk them in a familiar area, where they like to "go". Have a small cup (glass is better). Do not show the cup. Kinda crouch down, where you know they will go. After they start, scootch the cup under them. Yes, your hand is probably going to get wet - relax, you can wash it. If sample is collected at night (or hours before you can drop it off), cover the glass/cup with plastic wrap, place all in a ziploc & refrigerate. Chloe will go in my walk-in shower, if I don't let her out before bed. So, I put the drain in and just syringed up the sample, after she left her "deposit".

Sounds good in theory, but Zack has lots of spots to choose from both in our yard and on our walk. I did try crouching down next to a spot he often uses, but he looked at me and kept on walking. I think he likes his privacy.

Just have to share how I got a specimum from Dixie. The first time she saw me coming with the cup and just kept going. The next morning First pee time I had cup behind me and just walked up and put my hand under her from behind and it went right in and no wet hand. I did get a funny look from her like ''What are you doing''?

FUN to imagine what they must think when we collect their droppings/ specimens........Like Jerry Seinfeld said, "If aliens land here & see us pickin' up their poo, THEY will know who's in charge (and it's not humans)!!!"

Hey Tina, A SR trick (Sheltie Rescue) we picked up is to use a long handled ladle to collect urine specimens. It gives the "reach" needed and usually gets a good, clean sample.
