My puppy Parka got fixed yesterday and she is acting very strange. I understand that she has been through a lot in the last 48 hours but is this normal? She has never been protective of food but she is getting angry when anyone or another dog gets near her chew. She is also just pouting... How many days do you think it will take her to get back to normal? Not only did she get fixed but she has her bellybutton fixed.

Well as far as remembering what happened... my dog Archie has not liked the vet office since that day. He won't go near anyone or anything. He hides under my chair and resists everything. Last time he was pulled to the scale to get weighed. Before he was fixed all was well at the vet. At home he was back to normal about 2 days after.

Well.. I am hoping that Parka will not mind the vet... She was pretty happy to get the hell out of there though! I guess only time will tell.

Marina didn't mind being spayed. She is protective about her food with Tango, Sarah can eat her food with no problem. Marina will snap at Tango, but he doesn't mind - he knows shes bluffing. Marina will actually protect my food from the gang. Aside from the above here's a little tip about going to the vet. Take Parka for more car rides so that he won't associate a car ride means go to the vet. Several banks, drive-in eatings places, etc. actually give out dog cookies. Or, take Parka to a cool dog friendly place.

We actually had to go to the vet again today because she has been to active, even though I have been doing my best to keep her calm, and she has a small infection and they had to take out some fluid. Now she has to take a couple meds a day but should be fine in a couple days. But, she really didn't mind going back to the vet infact she was kissing the vet and pulling me to the door to go in. I take my dogs every where, including work. Haha! They are spoiled. Alex loves care rides and Parka just takes it has time to relax unless we are going to the drive thru coffee shop and they know theres treats.... then they go a little crazy! ha! Thanks for the advice. I will keep you posted on Parkas infection.

I'm going to give a go at the low heartrate issue.
What concerns me is the xray results, is the fluid or infection in the lungs or is it the actual sac that surrounds the heart? A second xray would be helpful in the case this was a bacterial infection of this sac, this doesn't really make sense because normally the inflamed sac (I'm still trying to remember the medical term) causes low blood pressure. I'm assuming BP is okay?
Did they stress test her at all? It would be interesting to see how her heart reacts to being exercised, it very well be that she just has normally low heart rate but for a 3 year old I would guess the lethargy is a symptom. I'm still thinking about that xray.
While you are walking her pay close attention for any dizziness or disorientation, also look for the dizziness when she first stands up after sleeping, make a note of anything you notice that seems abnormal for the vet.
Last but not least, I am not a doctor, I'm just a person who reads alot and I have had my own heart issues so naturally I've done much research but by no means take my word. Nobody, including the vet knows more about your pup then you do so the best thing you can do is watch and listen so you may relay any symptoms at all to her doctor. We wish you good luck

The fluid or infection was lung related and I am assuming from what the vet said that the Cipro took care of it. The stress test was getting the EKG. Heart rate was over 100. We have a lot of heart issues in our family too so I have been really watching her for any of the people symtoms. What is strange too is that when i talked to the lady I got Dixie from thru ARPH she said the people who turned her into a shelter said she was too playful and energetic for them. Stupid people. She has never been at the level of energy that sancho is but she was lots more playful until a few months ago. This has been gradual. Hopefully Complete echo and abdominal ultrasound will give clues or rule things out.
