Switching foods

Hi all,
I adopted a wigglebutt and I'm trying to change his food from (Canindae) sp? to Buddys (EVO). Both are quality grain free foods but Orbit has had gas so bad it makes me want to leave the house to them. In the past other dogs I have had switched foods easily so I dont know much about this.
His poo is still okay,no issues there but the gas is unbearable. I'm adding about 25% of Buddys food to Orbits but he also stole some from Buddy. Is this going to pass (no pun intended) or should I think about switching Buddy to the Canindae since he changes easily? He does seem to like the smell of it but I haven't let him have any yet.
Thanks, Me and Buddy with gas masks and Orbit grinning

My dogs had gas issues in the past. We recently changed to a holistic food (gradually over a week). They no longer have gas and no longer wake me to go outside in the middle of the night. Best of all, they LOVE it. TinaValant has links and info on her MDS page and in her blog.

Canidae is a GREAT food. I would say change Buddy to the Canidae and end the gas from Orbit.

A friend was fostering a young aussie boy, she told me abt his gas (fed Evo). I thought, she's exaggerating. Then I experienced it ~ the room was ensconced in a green gas cloud, we ran outside. I gave her food for the next week, after 3 days, GAS NO MORE!
I think Canindae is a great food, with two exceptions: freshness and cost. Anything you get off a shelf is usually 6-18 months old (chocked with preservatives to keep it). Preservatives can cause the gas, but it's USUALLY from corn, wheat or soy ~ which dogs (and cats) were never meant to eat. I ranted about this in my blog, hit view all & look toward bottom at Corn Wolves, Wheat Tigers and What's Really in the Bowl? No matter what you decide to feed, these two pieces will help you make better decisions. The aussies and all the cats are on this food. When it arrives at your door ~ it's 3 - 5 WEEKS old. Cost wise, ours will last you longer (so, it should be more cost effective than Canindae).

Thanks all, I didnt really want to open another which food is best topic. I'm sure the McDonalds I ate last night probably wasnt to good for me either.
Innova (EVO), Eagle Pack, Canidae, LA, and a few more are all top foods I've done my research, (and I'm not talking about company claims) and before anyone calls me cheap, do a comparison. I have to be practical though, call me old fashioned but credit cards are for travel and emergencies, not for monthly expenses. I think I mentioned before that I'd be more then willing to give LA a shot if a rep took paypal and I'd be sure it isnt sitting out in the rain when I come home. I cannot find Canidae local either, Buddy does show alot of interest in it though.
Anyway, Orbit didn't steal Buddys food last night and the gas is much less frequent, still potent but not as often. What I've learned is that it may take up to a week to get his system adapted so I'll stick it out and see if his coat comes around as good as Buddys did. And for the record there is no wheat, corn or soy in EVO, I think the same is true for Canidae.
I think I'm gonna go work on my liver some with a couple of beers while I rake leaves :)
Have a great day,
Buddy, Orbit and me

My bags of Canidae are marked with the manufacturing & expiration date. I've never purchased a bag that was more than a month old. Canidae can be difficult to locate for some people, but I'm really lucky to have a place that delivers a 40lb. bag every other Friday to my house (metropetservices.com). It's great...no lugging a bag around the store to the car. I did the research on costs, etc. when deciding what to put my guys on. Freshness, cost and ingredients wise...Canidae fit my lifestyle/wallet best. Now, I really would rather feed a raw diet (I used to - that went when the 2nd income aka husband went), but with 4 big dogs it just doesn't fit in my finances right now. Tina sent me a sample of her food and let me tell you - my guys went nuts over it. If I could afford it - I would have my guys on that food. Whatever you decide on...I sure hope the gas problem goes away soon and you enjoyed your beer!
