hi yea im a german shepherd lover. i work with 7 of them. i dont own one but i have 2 male papillons and 1 old male border collie and 1 male cavilier king charles spaniel.

i would love friends that love anybreed of dog except for pitbulls.

Well Hi to Wawatay.........Discrimination of any kind is unacceptable. If you prefer some breeds to others, then all you would have to is not accept their pal requests, and certainly not ask them to be pals. What one does not do is PUBLICLY denounce a breed in a statement such as yours upsetting an awful lot of MDS owners. Many people have preferred breed types, and I am sure you will appreciate that the purpose of this site is to help and advise, keep in contacts with friends, pick up on warnings about various things, request help..have fun....but never to upset what you are yourself.................another dog owners.                   Personnal opinion should be just that.......Personnal.

i think pit bulls are great  At the park the other day Ian met a lab/pit when i asked what kind he was the guy was afraid to tell me. I told him pits get a bad rap and that his dog was so nice.He was the sweetest dog. Every person I know who has a pit are the nicest dogs. I love all breads and pits too.

We realize that you made your post out of either a lack of social conscience or a lack of information about pit bulls. There is also a certain element that simply enjoy others pain and hurt feelings. While we don't make the rules around here, we do find that type of post unacceptable.

Did you know that a large percentage of pit bull attacks are done by dogs that were enduring extreme neglect and abuse? That side of the put bull story is never told. There's that fact and a whole lot more located here. Go ahead. Inform yourself.

Wawatay ~ you are missing out on making some great pals, REGARDLESS of the kind of dog residing in that household.

In AAT (animal assisted therapy) we have several APBTs and AmStafs. They visit children in hospitals, libraries and nursing homes. If THOSE people don't fear them, why should you?

I DO however have a very mean Great Dane who WOULD bite people if we were to have NOT neutered him and strung him up on a chain outside...

People approach us on the street and want to pet him, even with his muzzle on and him growling, but won't go NEAR our rottie who wouldn't hurt a flea and absolutely adores kids. Ignorance-

It's unfortunate that some people denounce a breed of dog, and terribly misinformed. Pit bulls are probably the breed which are most abused by owners who have no idea what dog ownership is truly about. Dog fighting is not only a horrific "sport", it is illegal. One only has to see what happened to quarterback Michael Vick to understand how reprehensible it is to train a dog to fight to the death. Such inhumane activities show people who have no feelings for dogs and regard them as disposable, like Kleenex.

It is not the breed which should be criticized, it is the owners and trainers who engage in such abuse who should be prevented from dog ownership and training.

I agree with all the responses to this topic. It is the owners, not the dogs that give the breed a bad reputation. I have known APBs that were as gentle and sweet as a lamb.

Dog fighting is a sickening "sport" if one can even call it that. But the dogs don't choose to participate; decisions are made for them. Cock fighting is equally brutal. But I never hear people saying they hate roosters or are afraid of them or that there shouldn't be any more.

Now this is true. It might be silly, but true. When I redecorated in French Country, I started to use lots of roosters. Unfortunately, everywhere I looked, all I could think of was the brutality involved in cock fighting and I switched to other things....pigs, cows, apples etc. At least they don't 'fight' those for sport. I still have a set of daily use dishes that sport the rooster motif, but they are getting chipped all the time! Geeeeez....guess I better get rid of them. I will never understand how anyone could be 'wired' so wrong as to enjoy blood sports.

No don't get rid of your dishes. That's the whole point - the roosters who fight do it because humans train them to fight. It's not the roosters' fault. Nor should nonfighting roosters be disliked because of the way sick humans misuse their fellow roosters. Hmmm maybe I should start a "Don't Blame the Roosters" blog or Forum topic.

Nobody ever said you had to adore the breed.  But you said you would reject pal requests from pitbull lovers.  That's discrimination.

Good Grief get an education. Is everyone having as hard a time biting their tongue as I am? Especially that Australian comment....now THAT would be fun to run with! Okay....I'm a reasonable grown up (most of the time). I didn't see the apology, though....

To reject the dog as a friend on here, is also to reject the owner.  If the owner loves the dog VERY MUCH, he or she would stick up for that dog.  The first thing you said was that you would not be interested in being friends with a pitbull.  You don't say that on here.  For the most part, this is actually the dog's group.  The humans type for them (and sometimes put their two cents in).

When I volunteered at the shelter where Rosie & Madison were, the other volunteers & workers did their best to get me to adopt Madison.  They knew how sweet he was, and they saw me spending a lot of time with him (to get him adopted out into a loving home).  My money situation, and where I am living were the only two reasons I couldn't adopt him.  (My mom doesn't want a bunch of dog hair everywhere so we have dogs that don't shed).

When Rosie was brought into the shelter, the man said he picked her up as a stray & was gonna keep her.  But their other dog (actually a small dog), kept trying to start a fight with her.
