Olivia has been just pooping in the house whenever she feels like it. I take her outside and it could be for an hour and she will still come in and within a brief time, she'll have pooped. I try not to get very angry, because sometimes I'm not catching her do it, but I really need some help here. We just bought a house and are in the process of fixing it up, with everything new, it will not be cool for poop! Please help!

Is this new behavior? How long have you been in the new house? Does she have a special place or places that she is pooping?

its hard to say what's going on without being there to observe.  My first guess would be that she's not comfortable outside yet and won't poop because of it.  Hopefully, she's pooping in the same place inside?

Sometimes, especially in new environments, you've got to start potty-training over again.  The dogs should re-pattern quite quickly, As Long As There's Nothing Else inhibiting them.

Penny (one of my long-term shy dog fosters) went almost two months before she was comfortable enough to poop outside - she'd never been in a place with open sky, with birds and trees and leaves blowing around, so she was very very nervous outside (would always pace around, never stopped pacing).  Gradually, she acclimated to the new world around her.  Rewarding her immediately when she did poop outside also helped train her.  We started off with newspaper in one place in the house (one area she was comfortable with) and then moved the papers closer and closer to the door, and finally outside, where after a few weeks, she didn't need the paper any longer.

It might take some time - especially if you're remodeling and there's lots of unintended scarey influences that she now sees.  Try to remember exactly what "before" was like and compare it to "now".  Nothing is too small to be considered -

she will relearn - it just might take a couple weeks.

Olivia has had this problem awhile. Even when we lived in the home she was used to, she would poop outside and inside. She poops in different places in the house - the living room, kitchen or hallway..  I give her great rewards of love and treats when she poops outside, and scold her when she poops inside, but neither seem to be helping! I hope that taking her out frequently is going to help her, she likes to be outside (except in bad weather) but I can't leave her out there alone, she barks and cries. For a little dog, she has a loud bark. Since we're new in the neighborhood, I would hate to make any enemies!

Thanks for the advice.. any more would be appreciated..

Go here...it sounds like she needs a refresher in house-training.

as a pee.ess.  I've got a "poop spot" right by the back door for the dogs that can't hold it if I'm gone for more than about eleven hours.  They're very good about using just that place.

Have you tried kennel training?

Take her outside and if she does not eliminate she comes in and goes to the kennel 15 mins- 1/2 hour later outside if no elimination same thing back to kennel.  But when she does (and she will) eliminate outside praise the heck out of her and give a treat when she does.  If you catch her eliminating in the house startle her either with a loud noise (can with a few pennies in it is good) or a very stern voice saying no!Frown

My Daughter has a Min Pin that had this same problem and as a vet tech we learn this in school.  We called it doggie protocol LOLSmile

As HARLEE_ANN suggested, we have found crate training to be a wonderful thing.  Just remember that the crate is not a punishment, it is a pleasure - their own special place.  When our furkids reach the stage of being well-behaved house citizens, we take the door of the crate (makes for easier maintenance for us) and just leave it.  They love having their own special private place.

You didn't mention your feeding schedule.  Make certain that you establish a regular meal time.  Put the meal down at the same time(s) everyday - and pick it up again at the same time.  If nothing else, it makes it easier to predict when you pup will need to go out.
