Hi all. I live in Providence, Rhode Island, and frequently peruse the pet section og our local Craigslist. A few days ago, a woman posted an ad saying that her dog "Sammy" was his by a car, had a broken leg and was at the emergency vet's office and that she could not afford the $4500 surgery. She was asking for help and said that donations could be made directly to the vet's office and that she'd be willing to sell what little she had to people if they would help. She was greeted with people A. thinking it was a scam, B. Calling her lazy and pathetic and to get a job (to which she stated she was between jobs and in school and her boyfriend just left her) C. Support and prayers D. People willing to sell some of their things for money to go to the vet and E. People saying had her dog been trained properly this never would've happened. The debate is getting pretty heated and some people are really cold about the whole thing, but I was just curious as to what people's thoughts are about this. I was a little skeptical about it being a scam since it WAS Craiglist, but people said they called the vet and it checked out. Just curious. This has been going on about 3 days and the dog still has a broken leg. Is that inhumane? http://providence.craigslist.org/pet/

hmmm I find it hard to believe that a vet would let the dog suffer this long with a broken leg .....at least most I know (mine included) would have taken the dog and treated it and work out some kind of payment plan. I'd have asked her for the vets info and called him/her myself to see if this was true.

Yeah, that's what I'd think...a broken leg warrants urgent care I'd think...because it would start healing broken right? And we've all seen Emergency Vets and Animal Cops...they DO treat the animal and sometimes at the pound, they'll fix the problem and then the person who adopts the animal pays for the surgery. It does seem sketchy...But then, she doesn't want the money...she wants it to go to the vet...I'm in the middle of moving ;P but my curiosity is piqued...I'll call in the morning and verify!
