We have added an Alaskan Malamute puppy to our family that includes a small dog and a chubby cat. Would like to get as much info and experiences as possible!

The puppy should do fine. It's the other dog and cat that have to accept the pup. There should be no problem. Marina was introduced into a pack of 2 females and one male adult golden. She was 8 months old, they all did just fine. I am told that introducing another female could have been a problem...but it wasn't.....Our pack is a solid pack right now. I can't introduce another dog yet. But when time comes it will be a puppy male mal.

What are your dogs like inside the house? Do they get into things, knock things over, chew things...?

Most puppies chew......we could have never done Marina on her own as a single dog......the other dogs keep her busy. Yes, we had chewing problems. This will eventually stop. Marina was crate trained. I don't know who did the chewing, but both Marina and Sarah did their share. One thing I tried, is baking soda and water into a muddy mixture and pasting onto surfaces they chewed. The goldens have kept Marina very stimulated. Marina will visit the waste buckets and shred a reminder by Billy's computer station.....just to say...."I'm pissed, when are you guys coming back."

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Because your pup is so young it's all he will know! To him that will be his pack! I had Parka before I got Alex. Alex was rescued the day before Thanksgiving and people told me I was crazy bringing a older dog into a house with a young puppy but Parka excepted him as his pack when in minutes. I think that it's great that you have couple other animals in the house. This will help your pup become very well socialized and with that probably never have issues with other dogs or animals! I make sure that my dogs meet every animal we pass and also get them together for play dates with my brothers dogs, which are both northern breeds too. But, also with other breeds so that they know they are all the same. Do you know anyone who has a pup from the same litter as yours? If so, you should get them together often for play dates just because they will teach each other things! I started Parka in a private class with two of her litter mates and the 3 of them learned so fast almost trying to one up each other! Ha!

Bitter apple spay works GREAT for getting your puppy to stop chewing on things you don't want them to chew on. Just read the directions! Perfect!

No, I don't know anyone who has one of his litter mates. We do have a dog park in our neighborhood, but we are moving in three weeks. After that most of his socialization will be from my mother-in-law's Lab and Jack Russel. And my cousin brings her medium size mix over every now and then. We will find other ways too, I'm sure.
I'll keep the bitter apple in mind.

The more socialization the better. My neighbors bring over their 2 goldens. Sometimes the other neighbor's dogs gets out, and he alway's heads over to my house and scratches to come in (that whole situation in another story). My other neighbor across the way brings her labbie...... Our house always has someone coming over and more or less they have 4 legs instead of 2.
