Rotties are a feared breed among those that don't know better. Just about the only press you hear about them is bad. But those of us in the know about Rotties know better! They are one of the smartest breed of dogs I have ever been around. They think things thru before acting most of the time. They are very loyal and proctective of "their" people. They are also a very playful and goofy breed. Rotties are definately not a breed for new dog owners as they can be very willful and try to walk all over you. Then again, one of my current Rottie girls is a velcro girl and lives only to please me and of course get her tummy rubbed! :)

I agree with you 200%, I have two wonderful Rottweilers and that is exactly why I gave them a good job to do in Search and Rescue! To give them some good press. I was wondering how many Rottweiler Lovers we have on this site? How would you look up all the peole that live with and love Rottweilers? Kat

To find other Rotties, click the search tab and under advanced search choose Rottweiler as the breed. That will bring up all Rottweilers and Rottweiler mixes. Chris

I adore Rotties! Most people just dont' understand them. They have a reputation for being "mean"! When actually they were bred to be "fearless" and what most people dont' realize there is a big difference between the two words! They are loyal, lovable and such clowns. I've had the fortune of having rotties in my life in the past and the only reason there isn't one now is because of my limited space....sigh.....My last guy was a whopping 210 pounds and the most loving and gentle character! When I walked him I actually saw people cross the street to avoid him and he was just so friendly! I always try to teach people to learn all about as many breeds as they can, not just the ones they are thinking of getting but to learn "outside the box". Many have come back very surprised and end up finding that the dog they least expected to "fit" their lifestyle has actually been the best fit for them!

Also just about the only press Rotties get is bad press. You only hear about the ones that bite people. And yes... it is usually really bad. They are a big dog and have very strong jaws... Smaller breeds of dogs bite a heck of a lot more than Rotties do, you just don't hear about them because they can't do the damage that a big dog can. I am always telling people... it isn't the dog that is bad, it is the owner. Yes, they can look very mean and scary, but honestly I have never ever had such a gentle, kind, loyal, playful and loving dog as any of my Rotties. My mother is a prime example of being scared of them even though she had never had any contact with a Rottie before she was introduced to mine. My wife was very hesitant about getting a Rottweiler after we got married. She has only had Chihuahua's all her life. Once she realized Rotties true nature, she has now totally converted to being a Rottie lover! So, give them a chance to show you what sweet, loyal, playful and totally goofy dogs they are!

Yes my Mom was and still is the same way, except she likes Freedom but is still leary of Justice. He has a mumble that sounds like a lion roar at time and she almosts runs when he does it. I have to remind her he is just talking to her saying hello and he likes her.

Funny how a deep voice is so scary to people. Sasha has a very deep voice when she decides to talk. Connor on the otherhand has the goofiest sounding voice you have ever heard! :)

I have been trying to get them to bark on command but for some reason neither one will, I have even had dog trainers try to train them to bark and they will not. They sometimes mumble but if you ask them to they act like you are telling them to stop talking. But when Justice decides to mumble he is very loud and deep, people will stop what they are doing to see if he is about to attack. But he is wagging his whole body he is so goofy.

Unless Sasha wants to do something or go somewhere, there is nothing on earth going to make her move! That is unless I pull out the secret weapon... treats! Then she'll do just about anything I ask of her. Sasha gets her little stump going when she see's me and shortly thereafter her entire back end is wagging uncontrolably! If I walk close enough to her, she'll just drop down and roll over on her back to get her tummy scratched by me. And once I start... I can't stop or she'll just give me the most pathetic look like "but daddy! don't you love me any more?"

I was just thinking... I could go on all day long about how goofy and cute the kids are! As I am sure just about everyone else on here can do with their kids! :)

Hello all, Im new here. I live with Cresteds now but my first lad was a Rott and I think they are the easiest breed to live with. Easy to train, adaptable (when you have a hangover they will chill out next to you all day), they love to see a smile on your face and they bond so strong. I adore them.

I'm Ontrose69's wife, Claudia. When we got married seven years ago, I was one of those who was afraid of Rotties. I'd seen the bad press, I'd listened to the horror stories, I'd heard the terrifying bark, and I just thought of Rotties as being a dangerous guard-type breed.... Well, we adopted a little Beagle/Rottie mix right after we got married (Jazz) and she was just a ray of sunshine. I figured it was the beagle in her, not the Rottie. But Chris (Ontrose69) made me start looking at Rotties on www.petfinder.com and the descriptions often sounded like Jazz's personality! So we adopted another Rottie mix (Connor). He's my boyfriend!! I can't get enough of that boy!! I was convinced...Rotties were getting nothing but a bad rap. That's when we began doing our volunteer fostering for old Rotties. Now I'm devoted to the breed. I used to be a Chihuahua promoter, and although I still love Chihuahuas, I have to admit...Rotties have stolen my heart in a MAJOR way!! I'm a Rottie Convert!!

I am so very happy that your husband pushed you in the right direction, I knew a long time ago that if I ever got another dog it would be a Rottweiler because of their beauty and after having my first one Freedom the breed stole my heart and I will never have any other dog. I work really hard to fight BSL because if it happens to Rotties I will move where ever I have to to keep my kids and I really don't want to leave Texas but I would in a heart beat if they told me I couldn't have Rotties like they did to Colorado Pitts. Hey, this would probably be a good place to ask this question. My son, Jersey is the second rott. mix that i've had (both of them were rescued, so I don't know what the other half is). He's a very silly boy, and does silly things to get attention. One of his favorite things to do... when he's really happy is to make a loud sound ... it sounds like a growl and a howl all rolled into one (like a REALLY loud GROWL)... But he'll only do it if he has something in his mouth (and yes, when he wan'ts to 'grumble' for you, you see him looking around fevereshly for an object... a shoe, a sock, a stick, a ball, a stuffed animal) The sound kind be quite scary if you've never heard it before... but everyone who knows him laughs when they hear him 'sing' ... I've heard that it's a common thing with rottweilers, but i've never actually met another owner whos' dog does this ... is this a rottweiler thing? (Or is it a Jersey thing?)

Yes both of my Rotties do it but my male is just like your son's. My Female, Freedom will do it but she doesn't have to have anything in her mouth but she doesn't do it that loud or that often. Justice my male is really funny and he will also look around for something to put in his mouth but sometimes he does it without anything in is mouth and it is really loud and maybe that is why they do it so muffle the sound so they don't scare people. LOL!!! It is actually called the Rottie Mumble in Rottie circles. It is cute and while he is doing it his whole body is wagging!

Oh kool ... so I guess my son isn't a weirdo (not that it mattered anyways) LOL!!! Jersey has learned a new trick. My neighbors, next door have 2 retrievers and one of the barks CONTINUOUSLY... so Jerz. used to run along the fence with the retreiver and they'd bark at each other and hop up and down chasing each other along the fence. Well the barking is freak'in annoying ... So I taught him "quiet!", and now the barking has been reduced (by Jersey) by 70%. However, NOW he HOWLS at the neighbors dog ... I remember the first time I heard this noise ... and I looked outside to see Jersey, and the neighbors dog Chins up in the air, mouths circular shaped .. and howling in sychrony! Yes, that's my silly son!!!!

So we got a new Rottie girl in our family. Riley is a rescue (and I do mean rescue!) from the Humane Society. We figured she only had another day at the most before they put her down. She is a real sweetheart! She is now up on my profile.

Congratulations to you all, I will have to go check her out! She is really a beauty, and she looks so sweet. How old is she? I don't know if we have any Pitt owners but I fell so horrible about that dog fighting ring and it would kill me to find out that any Rotties were treated that way. I feel that the names are mixed up here. Most humans turn out to be the animals and most animals are more humane than humans.

I can't agree more about how most animals are more "human" than humans are. Honestly, I would rather be with my dogs than with people. At least my dogs don't try to stab you in the back or judge you... they just want to be loved and give all their love to you in return! ESPECIALLY Rotties! :)

LOL!!! I had a boyfriend that was jealous of my son once. And he posed this question "If jersey and I were in a burning building and you could only help one of of us get out, whom would you save?" .... My answer: "jersey, because he doesn't have opposable thumbs and cannot turn doorknobs or unlock windows (to jump out)"... yah, my ex-BF didn't like that answer... so I said "Ok Ok... well, i'd just stay in there with both of you" . . . needless to say, he wasn't very pleased. But, I didn't need that guy anyways!!!!
