Having a purebred doesn't mean they are a show dog. Try finding a local club and see if anyone can look him over.
There is a good bit of traing before you can show a dog. I don't know if there is an age limit because I am into rescue, not showing or breeding. |

If you want to try showing in conformation, the dog needs to be six months old the day of the show. You also should find someone in your area (try your local kennel club) to help you teach your dog the basics-like how to stand (stacking) and what you need to do to get started. There usually isn't an age limit but young dogs tend to show better. Good for you for wanting to get involved with your dog. Don't forget abou performance events like agility, tracking and obedience. These are fun activites that you can still earn titles for. Purebred rescue dogs can earn titles in these activities as well. My Lilly and McKenze are both rescues with ILP numbers from the AKC. This number allows purebred dogs with no "papers" a number to compete in any performance event normally allowing that particular breed to compete in. They both have CD (Companion Dog) titles. |

By the way, you pom is 5 months old. He is way too young to breed anyway. If you are even thinking of breeding him, you need to show him first. This will give you an idea if he is actually "breeding quality". If he does well in the show ring, (WINNING POINTS) then you may have something. If he continually looses, then you neuter him. The whole historical reason for a dog show is to prove breeding quality. Only the best are bred to carry on the genes for future generations. Hopefully that "want a mate to breed" on your profile is some kind of oversight. Research your breed. Know what you are getting into. Find your local kennel club and let those people help you. Be committed and respectful. |

I want to start Junior Showmanship but I dont know how to start preparing for my first show. Also, what breed is best for first time handlers. I'd love to hear feedback. |

I AM A MEMBER OF A GERMAN SHEPHERD CLUB AMD THE TASMANIAN CANINE ACCOSATION. IF IT IS LIKE THE RULLES DOWN HERE U NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF A CANINE ACCOSIATION TO HANDLE IN THE RING. IF U ARE A FIRST TIME HANDLER IT WOULD BE GOOD TO START OFF WITH A DOG THAT WOULD NO WAT TO DO IN THERE SLEEP. I WOULDNT RECCOMEND A PUPPY TO START OFF WITH. SINCE THEY ARE BEGGINNERS THERE SELVES THEY WILL BE VERY PLAYFUL AND WON STAND STILL FOR THERE TETH TO BE EXAMINE OR TO STAND FOR SHOW. |

Puppys are fun to show..and a good way for both of you to learn. Labrador puppies are fun to show...but then I could be biased.lol |
