Dublin City Council (U.K) is to introduce a ban on eleven breeds of dog from properties including houses, flats and estates, with immediate effect. The breeds are: English Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, German Shepherd (Alsatian), Doberman, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Japanese Akita, Bull Mastiff, Japanese Tosa and Bandog. Cross-breeds of these dogs or crosses of these dogs with any other breed are also banned. Owners will be given the opportunity to rehouse the dogs but if alternative accommodation cannot be found for they will be destroyed. The council has taken the step to remove all "dangerous breeds" due to the increasing numbers of complaints from tenants and because of the legal implications associated with an attack taking place on one of its properties. The ban initially applies to council housing and all public areas within council estates." I would love to post John Gormleys email address here for you all but not sure if Im allowed to. So if anyone else wants to make thier opinions known then email or IM me and Ill give more details. Im not sure if I can post the petition link here either, so contact me . We cant let them do this, these things have a habit of snowballing to other areas of the world.

Hi Sharon here from the US ..... are you saying that if you live in Dublin and have one of these dogs that is on the list, you have to "re-home" them immediately or they DIE? This applies to a house you own as well as an apartment or flat you rent? I am confused as to what Council housing is? Yeah send me that email address! I understand concerns people have about some breeds but this seems very wrong.

Articles like that one make me so angry. It just goes to show how stupid politicians are when they do not research a subject fully. "Our information on these dogs is that that they can be very aggressive and while they might be family pets, that has to come secondary and would be no defence to us if a child or other vulnerable person was attacked on our property." What a load of crap! What they should be doing is banning people from having dogs that train/treat their dogs to be aggressive. Jamie, I am sorry that is happening in Dublin. And here I thought that Irish were a bit smarter than that. :( I guess there are just stupid people everywhere. Next thing you know... they will ban people from walking because they might walk out in front of a car or bus or because they had a fight with someone...
