I may be moving to Hawaii in September for at least 3 months. I feel reluctant to leave my 9 months old yellow lab back home. I am sure I will miss him to death during my stay in Hawaii. And I can’t seems to get him a good place to go here. I would like to bring him along with me. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Hilton’s mommy

Does he get carsick?

Have you thought about asking your vet about good places for him to go?  I asked mine once about good places to go apply for a job.  I wanted to work at a boarding facility.  He gave me a long list.

He will probably go in cargo.  Are you ok with that?  Also, do you know where you’ll be staying?  Is it pet friendly?

Brace yourself!  There will be a lot of other questions too.

Thanks RileysMommy for your advices.  Hilton does get carsick when he is ridding in a car. I can imagine it will be even worse when he has to travel in a plane.

I remember reading a book call ‘Marley and Me’. The little yellow labby barked and whinned in the cargo till all passengers in the plane wonder whose dog is that.

I will check online for the places which are pet friendly but if anyone have any ideas please let me know.

I have a dog that gets carsick too.  His name is Buddy.  Our vet recommended “dramamine” for him.

I would ask your vet about it, but thats what mine said.

I don’t know any details, but I’ve heard that you can’t just take a pet to Hawaii… you have to have detailed vet records, certain shots are required, and worst of all, you have to have them quarantined for a certain amount of time.  You have to start planning at least 120 days ahead- records must be provided.  If you have all your ducks in a row 120 days ahead, the quarantine can be as short as 5 days.  If you don’t have your ducks in a row, the quarantine can be up 120 days, which sounds like about the same amount of time you’ll be gone.  I’m not exactly sure how this works, but if you’re not moving there permanently, it seems like an awful lot of grief to put the dog through (and you)... I personally would keep trying to find a place for him on the mainland…  Google something like “taking a pet to Hawaii”- I’m positive there’s more to it than just making him comfortable for the trip.
