I'm bored so I thought I'd start a new topic. What inspired you to give your dog their name?

I got Bitcy's name from just a random word that came through my head. Hey, I was four! =P Then I got Goku's name from the action Anime cartoon "Dragonball Z". Some of you might know the show.

Ripley was named before we brought him home.  I wanted something snappy for my new show dog so his registered name is Ravendanes Believe it or not.  Needless to say since he turned into a jerk and we neutered him, his registered name doesn't matter much anymore.

Lilly and Nigel are brother and sister, and we just liked the names.  They were rescues so there is no registration but Lilly has an ILP number from the AKC that allows her to compete in performance events.  Her "registered" name is Sunny's small fry Lilliput

Ben named McKenze  before I met him.

Charlotte came from a hoarder and her name when we got her was Princess.  She didn't seem to know it and she is by no means a princess so we changed it.  We were at a loss for what to change it to and we had just watched Charlotte's web, a childhood favorite, and it stuck.  She answers to it so she must like it!

Eine came with her name too.  Eine means "one" in german and Eine was a singleton puppy-meaning she was the only one in her litter.  Her registered name is BGDawgs Once in a  Blue Moon.  Her sire is out of Blue Moon Great Danes so it was very fitting.

Green Bean got his name because there were three black pups in his litter and he wore the green collar (to tell them apart) and it was his baby nick name.  When the pups were seven weeks old, we said green bean and his head whipped around.  It seemed that he responded to that name, it was cute so we kept it.

His registered name is BGDawgs Jolly Green Giant.  At the rate he is growing, he WILL be a giant.  He will be four and a half months old tomorrow and is pushing 80  pounds.

Banjo started out as Bandit..It was Johnny Quest's dog's name on that old cartoon. It morphed into Banjo. Sophie is a pretty name, I always liked the name Sophie. Although I kinda wish I named her Burgers..

Burgers? That is kinda funny. The names I described are their given names, however they answer to alot of other names as well. It's kinda funny that they know they have nicknames too... ~7

The night before we picked up Zoe, I went online and looked up baby names in the internet. I gave my hubby 5 to choose from, he picked Chloe. She was a little nutty when she was a baby so Zoe fit better. She has nicknames too, Baby Girl Dunfee (BGD for sort), Xavier, Sweetie and Babes.

My brother got the first dog and named it Rocky (as in Balboa of course), before we even had a chance to really decide. He used to watch Rocky movies religiously back in the days. I have noticed though that most black dogs are named Rocky. My sister wanted Baxter (from the movie Anchorman) and I wanted Chester (one of my fav artist).

The second dog, Olivia, after Olive Oyl (Popeye). When we first got her, she spent about a month without an official name. We would call her something different every day such as Karma, Buddha, Luna, Rose, and Marley (Bob Marley). At the time I was watching old Popeye cartoons at school (animation class) and noticed that Olive Oyl was very much a lady and didn't like being disrespected, especially from a man. Olivia was much like that. Olivia was of course going to grow into a very tall, slim, long legged black dog. Olive Oyl is also a tall, slim, long legged, brunnette. Since the dog was to understand Spanish and English, we went with Olivia but her real name is Olive Oyl. It did help that Rocky did reminded us of Popeye, short but buff and strong. Rocky's second name is Popeye and he definitely does protect his Olive girl. The funny thing is, Olivia remembers all of those names we used to call her during that month!

Pancho was named by grandma because he was to have a spanish name because he was part Chihuahua. Panchita was named by the boy who found her, which is our cousin, and he decided to just call her that. He figured that Rocky and Olivia act like a pair of twins and so do Pancho and Panchita. They are the Swee' and the Pea (Popeye's adopted son, Swee'Pea).

The next dog which I do hope is a Dobermann will be named Ace (Batman's dog), from my choice, and Corleone (Vito Corleone from the Godfather), according to my sister.

off topic: Here's a vid of a Dobermann playing a Corleone (or a Corgione in this caser) in the Dogfather. I would have wished they were eating raw instead.

When our one yorkie died who's name was Koozil (which I got from my favorite figurine named Koozil). We decided to keep with the traditions of naming another yorkie after a dragon.  Hanna Lee is from the song "Puff the Magic Dragon"

Puff the Magic dragon lived by the sea

and froliced in the mists in a land called "Hannalee"

I've had five dogs, Samson, Frankie, Hershey, Beasley and Jack. Jack was the only one we named. All the rest were prenamed rescues. We chose Jack because we wanted something short and Jack just sort of fit him.

Bantam Bantam 3 post(s)

Bantam got his name because I wanted a name that meant small (he's a chihuahua) and I didn't want a typical name.  I found a definition for bantam that meant "small and full of spirit".  It definitely fits! Smile

My husband and I had been discussing getting a dog - but he wanted a female Jack Russell, and I wanted a male Beagle...so it was fate that we came across our two Jackabees.

We named them Bonnie and Clyde - the Dangerous Duo.  The names fit them pretty good!

Bonnie is also called Bonnie Jean - I don't know where I came up with the Jean - Just came out one day and stuck.

Clyde... oh Clyde... I call him my little weasle...LOL

what great stories.

Emma recieved her name in honor of rottie girl I met at a shelter.  You see I had been looking for a dog for awhile, but I had certain restricitons on me.  One was size, I was only allowed a "small" dog.  I met this beautiful sweet, lovely rottie girl, but she was just too big.  Emma stayed on my mind, and I always hoped she found a happy ending.

When I finally found Emma (then Skittles) I decieded to change her name in honor of the big rottie girl.

My favorite nickname for her, was actually given to her by my father, Emma LouGoo.  I'm have no idea why he calls her that, but she absolutley adores it.

Matilda is a Labradoodle which were first bred in 1989 in Australia to be service dogs.  The only thing that popped into my brain at the time was the Australian song "Waltzing Matilda", so we named her Matilda and it suits her to a T.  Her middle name is velcro which is self-explanatory when you think of it.
