What breed was your first dog? How old were you? Do you still have that dog?
My first puppy was Bitcy, a female boxer.I was 4 when I got her. I had her for 12 years and then lymphoma took her away from me. |

My first dog (that I remember) was JoJo a beagle that we got in 1965. I was 4 years old. JoJo has been waiting a long time at the Bridge - and I'll be so glad someday to see him again.

Our first dogs we had were some of Mexico's dogs. Can't say which one was the first one. They are not with us anymore. I don't recall them because I was a little kid at the and my family is not too good of naming breeds.
My sister pointed out once at the dog park a dog that looked exactly like the one we had. It was a Samoyed.
My sister said the other one was a Chihuahua, very aggressive little dog.
The other one was a pitt bull mix. White with brown spots.
Then we had another one that by the looks of a photo, looked a lot like a Rhodesian Ridgeback. That was dad's right hand. It once jumped out of the car and never returned. Dad never could find the dog and found it weird that it hadn't returned home, as the dog knew the the streets pretty well. Someone had caught it and chained him up outside. One day when my dad was working, the dog smelled my dad's scent and broke out of its chained and jumped back into the car. I know, sounds like something from the movies but it's true.
My brother had a dog that died when he was a kid and it was to be his right hand dog. The dog always walked my brother to school and back to school. One day my brother went inside the classroom and mom and the dog always walked back home together. Well, the dog one day reacted and didn't see my brother that it took off and got hit by a car. My brother of course saw it all when he came out to see what was happened. The dog died right there and my brother cried so hard that he didn't want another dog ever again.
Our first dog since then has been Rocky who my brother brought home. Rocky is now a proud member of the Former Escape Artist. Then came the little aggressive Chihuahua, Olivia. Also, the other Chi, Panchita, white with brown spots. |

My first dog as an adult is Zoe. She is a Silky Terrier. As a child my family had a beautiful mixed breed that was the sweetest dog. I did not appreciate the benefits of having a dog when I was a child. I hardly ever walked her and I regret that as an adult. Candy died after a long and I hope happy life. |

The first dog I ever had as a responsible adult? That was Gus (see our blog about 7 becoming 6). He was half dane and half redbone coonhound. He was a very gentle soul and is missed greatly. I think of him often. He was 8 years old and suffered from idiopathic epilepsy. Towards the end he lost most of his bladder control. We had numerous dogs when I was a kid but as my parents were ( and still are somewhat ) very ignorant about responsible dog ownership, they either got pregnant and had puppies under the house or chased cars and got run over. Thankfully some of us learn and change our ways. I remember many dogs from my childhood that I wish I had a second chance with... 7dogs |

First dog(s) growing up- 2 collie mixes Skooter and Skeeter. Great farm dogs!
Emma is, what I consider to be my First Dog (that I am totally responsible for). Wheaten terrier mix- she's about 4 years old. I'm kind of a training junkie. She is leash reactive, and so we are working through that.
But- she is totally worth the work! She came along right when I needed her |

The first breed i remember as a child was a german shepherd...my dad trained them in vietnam and when he got out that's all we ever had. They were brother and sister named Jake and Ginger...sadly Ginger was bitten by a snake and went to rainbow bridge when she was about 3 but Jake lived along time
As an adult...a lhasa poo that we got on our honeymoon...his name was J R (not junior) because we got him in Dallas (get it)...he lived to be about 6 before he went to rainbow bridge |

My first dog was a basset hound names Bruno (from Cinderella). I got him as a puppy when I was 3 or 4. He was a great dog, even though he slobbered...a lot! We used to play tag in the yard for hours. He ran away after about five years :( |

As a child, from the time I was around 3, I was afraid of dogs. I'd been mistaken for dinner by a Saint Bernard, asked to go to Hell with a pair of red-eyed Irish Wolfhounds, and chased for a quarter mile by a trio of certified junkyard dogs. As an adult, I didn't care for dogs at all. That changed when I retired from the military - my folks had a GSD living in the house with them, and although Sarge wasn't my dog, he was THE dog that changed my life. My first dog is on my Rainbow Bridge ID - Sugar (she's the sable sheltie) was my first dog. I adopted her when she was eight years old and she lived to be 13 before she succumbed to the food poisoning problems in the Winter of '06/07 (she passed January 2nd 2007). She's the dog that completed my "rehab" into dogdom. Now I've got between five and seven dogs at any one time living with me.

My first Dog (she was i the house before me, her and my mom married my dad) was a Minture Poodle named Gidget. The only few memories of her was when I was walking, she was so much taller then I was that she would put her 2 frount feet on top of my head and leave them there till I cried. I don't really rember much how she died, I know she was old and haveing allot of trouble with her teeth (most poodles do). She would bring you back a toy and it would be coverd in blood. Of course She started a long line of Toy Poodle and then Yorkies. I can still list all their names and cause of death. But my first dog that I picked out and was my best friend was Muffin Ann. Not only did I have to help her Mother (Missey Sue) deliver the puppies(Missey would not eat the sacks off in time so you had to cut them open), but I made sure I got to keep one of them. |

. I don't think we are sent anything we can't handle.
