My hsuband decided that seeing as we are from Boston and Jack is a Boston Terrier it was just a given that he named him after one of our most famous Bostonians…..John F. Kennedy….LOL

Hooper is named after the first offspring of an English White Terrier (now extinct) and a Bull Terrier. Hooper’s Judge – which was the beginning of the breed which we all now know and love – Boston Terriers…..one of the first truly “American” breeds.

Zack after another Zack who had just died. Quincy because we wanted his name to start with a less used letter also. Then I realized we have a presidental theme going here so the next one, whenever that is, will be be Hoover.

Snowden after Raggidy Ann & Andy’s Snowman friend Snowden. When my dad first brought her home, my brother used a Snowden bowl to give her water.. and the name stuck! Olivia is named after Mariska Hargatay’s character on Law & Order SVU! That’s a great show and I can’t yell Mariska, so Olivia was it! :)

Rudy ~ b/c we got him right after the first Survivor & I thought the crusty old Navy SEAL, Rudy should have won; and I am from IN, and Rudy was the small Notre Dame player with a big heart…..

Mack ~ named for the kind of truck which presumably hit him

Chloe ~ she was like a tiny fawn when I got her, so delicate

Lacey ~ even though we got her when Laci Peterson had just disappeared…..her name was Lady, I thought Lacey was close enough & cuter

Jackpot ~ I thought, whomever gets him, will have hit the Jackpot. He is also called Kodi, which is what I would have named him, knowing he was staying! Esp, since when he counter surfs, I say> Jack, OFF! Reallllly should have thought out the name a little better.....

AusSiebelts (our pack’s name) ~ Aussies (breed) + Siebelts (our last name)

Banner – registered name is “Star Spangled Banner”. He was born on July 4, 2000. His litter had a patriotic theme. I held a contest on one of my email lists – the winner got a $50 donation to rescue of their choice. Star Spangled Banner won.

Justice – registered name is “Let Freedom Reign”. He was born 5 days before 9/11. The name fit the feeling of the nation.

Faith – came with her name. She was a rescue from Forney, Texas. Rescue named their dogs with the first letter of the city they were rescued from. Her name has stayed the same.

Libby – registered name is “Liberty Star”. I wanted a patriotic name for her and she was sent to me to help heal my broken heart from losing Banner. I feel like she is a part of Banner (she is so similar to him) so therefore, the name Star in her registered name.

Brooklyn... My husband is from Brooklyn and we just thought it fit him perfectly!

Destiny... She would have died if we didn’t get her and take her to the vet right when we did so, we thought Destiny fit! She had to have a blood transfusion along with many other things and the vet told us even after all of that they couldn’t tell us for sure if she would live or not! We were thinking about names like Lucky, Hope and Faith, but on our way home from leaving her at the vet we heard a commercial on the radio for Destiny night club! lol! We probably wouldn’t have thought of Destiny if it wasn’t for that, but that’s what we named her and it fits her perfectly!

Jayda... We saved her from her horrible owners about a month ago. Her name was Tiki, but she didn’t respond to it and I didn’t feel like it fit her or sounded good with Brooklyn and Destiny. I have always liked the names Karma and Jayda, but a friend of ours has a black and white APBT (just like Jayda) named Karma already so, that wouldn’t have worked out too well. We thought of a few other names and just like with Brooklyn and Destiny, Jayda just fit her! We wanted her name to be a little bit unique so, we decided to spell it Jayda instead of Jada.

Freedom – 5 year old Female Rottweilers- Freedom Soaring Eagle- I bought her after 9/11 she was born on July 7th and I knew I would train her for Search and Rescue so I thought a patrotic name would be good. She picked me because I think she knew if I didn’t buy her she would die because of the bad breeder I bought her from. I am also part Native American so I wanted one that sounded Native.

Justice – 2 year old Male Rottweiler- He is a rescue but keeping with the patrotic names I named him Justice Hawk and he also is training for Search and Rescue so I wanted him to have the eyes of a hawk and have a Native American sounding name.

Cinnamon was an owner surrender. I picked her up with every intention of renaming her Sophie. The owner’s son (8 yrs old and not too thrilled we were taking his dog) looked up at me and asked, “Are you going to change her name?”

I felt the only answer could be, “No.” And I kept my promise.

I love the name Cinnamon, now!

Skye was named after her beautiful blue eye. Her blue eye reminded me of the colour of the sky when it is that pretty blue colour, hence the name Skye.

If we had a human daughter, her name was to be Samantha Louise. (After my grandfather Sam and my mom Louise.) We ended up with a beautiful four legged furry daughter instead and felt she deserved to be honored with the same name. We shortened it to Sami Lou.

Kind of neat how we all got our names. Apparently mine came off the back of a truck… Mom was driving home and she and dad had narrowed it down to a few choices and the truck she was following happened to be a GMC Sierra… Well, when they came to get me Sierra stuck. Lynn is after my daddy…we both have the same middle name.

Kitsune Kitsune 116 post(s)

This is a great thread! “Kitsune” means “red fox” in Japanese. Many people stopped my family when we were out on walks and said I looked like a little red fox. Shiba Inus are a Japanese breed, so Kitsune seemed to fit. Also in Japanese lore, kitsune are associated with the good spirits, and some people make offerings to them as a deity. We figured it all sounded positive and good all around ;)

The breeder named me Lilly, and no matter how hard she tried, my mommy could not convince big sis and big bro to change my name to anything else. Mommy spells it Lily and says that I am a flower.

Kes got her name from a vote in on Mom’s Star Trek Voyager website. It was a look a like contest based on Kes’s photo and the major actresses on the show-Kate Mulgrew(Captain Janeway),Roxanne Dawson ( B’Elana Torres), Jennifer Lien(Kes),Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine). Gracie got hers from my Mom’s great aunt Grace and because she came into her life after a time of great loss when Mom prayed for healing. Pearl got hers from The Pirates of the Carribean, she has all the colors from the sea on her and the tips of her ears look like she’s wearing a pirate hat. Plus mom loves Johnny Depp.

Ike – after Ike, Kyle’s lil adopted Canadian Brother, on South Park. I wanted a short name and Ike on South Park was cute and mischievous. After a while we realized that we have a lot of IKEA furniture so it’s like “IKEA” minus the “A.” LOL.
