You are right about the movie rights to Marley & Me, Tina. When John Grogan spoke in Delray earlier this summer, I had the opportunity to interview him - he has been a favorite writer of mine since he was a columnist with the Palm Beach Post. My interview will be in the next issue of Boca Dog Magazine. One of the interesting things I learned is that Marley will be played by six different dogs, to represent his different ages. They are currently being trained somewhere in Florida.

I also loved For the Love of a Dog. I may be in the minority here, but I prefer her methods over Cesar Milan's.

I'm right beside everyone in the "non Ceasar crowd". Not impressed with his methods what so ever. I was reading Marley and Me when my Banner died in October. I still can't bring myself to finish the book. I just know I'll fall completely apart. A great book is: The Dog Listener: Learn How to Communicate with Your Dog for Willing Cooperation by Jan Fennell

GOLDENMOM, AND YOU TRAIN HOW?????? WHAT ARE YOUR METHODS? I BELIEVE IT DEPENDS ON THE DOGS THAT YOU ARE WORKING WITH..... GOLDENS ARE A VERY "SOFT" DOG AND YOU DONT NEED TO BE THE ALPHA....... MY DOGS ARE BIGGER THAN I AND I STILL NEVER NEED TO TOUCH THEM AND THEY HAVE ALL THE RESPECT THAT I NEED FROM THEM BUT I USE "LESS" OF WHAT EVEN CEASER MILAN USES TO TRAIN MY GERMAN SHEPHERDS. ITS ALL ABOUT LOVE AND RESPECT. AND MY DOGS WOULD STAND IN FRONT OF ME AND DIE FOR ME IF NEED BE AND VISA VERSA. BUT NEVER A HAND LAID ON THEM. ITS ALL RESPECT...... AND WHO IS WHO IN THE ORDER ;O)

Hey GoldenMom! I am reading Marley & Me and I love it so far. I haven't gotten to the end, so I am sure I am going to cry big time. Are there any other books like that out there, I'm not into training books. I think that Snowden and Olivia are about as trained as they are going to get.. And I'm fine with that. But - I am behind you Golden Mom. :)

D ~ thanx for bringing this thread back on topic. We all do not have to agree ~ but please, let's respect one another and not attack. I have Patricia McConnell's DVD, Feeling Out Numbered? (living in a multi-dog household), it is great. I was in Wisconsin, last year, when she was giving a seminar, nearby (but I missed it). ;-p Everyone says Marley & Me is a real, fabulous tear jerker. Having had a geriatric dog (pre-aussies), I do not think I could "handle it"! I will wait for the movie and watch with a truckload of tissue.

I just loved the book "Scaredy Dog, Rehabiliating your Reactive Dog" by Ali Brown. I saw her at a conference and she was wonderful as were her methods for rehab with dogs.

Another great book is Second Hand Dog. I don't recall the author (I'm at work and the book is at home). Great rescue resource.

Marley - A Dog Like No Other. This is a special adaptation for young readers written by John Grogan who wrote the infamous Marley & Me. My son did his Summer Book Reading Project on it, and I highly recommend it for children to read.

my mom made me read Marley and Me the last time I was home on leave and that book made me laugh, cry and made me go hug the dogs at home. also its a classic and its not a training book but Call Of The Wild by Jack London is a very good dog book.

I look forward to reading Marley and Me it sounds really good. I liked the books "Dogs never Lie about Love" and "Joy in a Wooly Coat" I give it to anyone I know that looses a dog. It really helps. I also like "Dogs Deserve Dialogue". I also read a book and loaned it to someone that never gave it back but it was called "The New Work of Dogs" Blondi, I don't want to step on any toes but it is hard to read what you write when you use all caps.

I really like Owen Wilson and Jennifer Anniston and I have seen them in some really good movies where they were not idiots. I am looking forward to it, keep me posted on when it comes out. I guess we all have our opinions.......

I feel like the only person on earth who hasnt' read this yet. Every time I turn around someone is telling me about it. I remember last summer while hubby and I were still on the road, we had decided to take a break one night and check into a hotel with the pooch. While there an elderly couple came in and absolutely fawned over little Jack and was telling us how they were traveling cross country and had an audio book that I should listen too or get to read...it was Marley and Me! I am gonna run out this weekend and buy it! LOL FINALLY.....
