Good News For Michael Vick's Dogs

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and PETA wanted to add the ultimate insult (death) to a life of injury (dog-fighting) for the dog victims of Michael Vick. Despite the recommendations of HSUS and PETA that they be killed, prosecutors allowed the dogs to go to No Kill adoption groups all over the country. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. And these pictures say it all. Where are they now? Click here |

I know they put all pits down here. In part because the wrong sort of people get them...like the ones they were taken from. It's also a huge liability. Kudos to the people willing to take them on. Hope it works out.

YAY!!! I like seeing dogs that have been through so much find joy and peace. My favorite picture is the next to last one with the dog peeking over the door.
PS alot of places put down pit bulls, Emily was going to be put down simply before my husband stepped in and rescued her, Duval County FL animal control doesnt adopt out stray pit bulls

Yes, that's where I live...Duval County. They don't adopt out stray or seized pits. They also try to put them down as quick as possible because the shelter seems to get broken into whenever they have seized pits there. I do wonder if these dogs can truly be rehabilitated though...?

The webpage is down, could not view pix. K9Advisor, Edel (and Cesar M) would tell you, definitely so. CM was willing to take on/rehab the female canan presario (who maimed and killed the woman in CA). Her fate was sealed by court order ;-(
The mastiff I found submitted, belly up to Chloe (she is 45 lb, he is 210). Mastiffs are also often listed as a dangerous breed. I have NEVER met a mean one.
BSL is crazy. You can not justify an all or nothing rule, just because of a dog's breed. We have rescued (history unknown) PBs in animal assisted therapy. On the flip side, dogs of almost every breed, size and age have been PTS for unprovoked aggression (or liability from a bite history).

Unfortunately not everyone has access to CM. Maybe we will see them on the show. It would sure take some very strong evidence to convince me to leave my dogs alone with any dog that had been trained to fight.
Don't get me wrong...I have been with some awesome pits, as well as other dogs who have earned a reputation and I would not 'lump' them together, but I have also seen animal/animal agression and training, and it's not pretty, nor is it something that is easily rehabbed.

I might not be comfortable in a room alone with one of them, either ;-) But I don't think they should be PTS, without having them properly evaluated and given a chance (probably their first chance ever, at a normal life).
CM has a two year wait list, but there are wonderful behaviorists like Edel (he just got back from a dog sanctuary in Colorado), who can literally, "work wonders"!
On Oprah last week, was that dog Oogy, who stole my heart (he was a bait dog). Look in media of forum, here.

I wonder if these dogs would have to be placed with families that 1)currently do not have any animals, 2) have experience with bully breeds and 3) have no small children. Any thoughts?
