Your dog needs you to voice your opposition to proposed legislation. Here is an email I received this morning:
"IF we don’t showed up in masses to this meeting kiss your rights to own pets in Dade good bye. I have turn purple trying to warned everyone but people still think that it will go AWAY, it WON’T
IF YOU DON’T SPEAK UP FOR YOUR PET NO ONE ELSE WILL!!!!!
BE THERE FOR YOUR PET. and all the animals of Dade County. The FULL COMMISSION hearing will be held on December 18th at 9:30AM
At the Stephen P Clark Government Center 2nd Floor
11 NW 1 st Street, Miami Fl 33128 - Take the Metro Rail
This will be to VOTE NO more PUBLIC hearing this is IT!!!!
Be there for your dog/cat every animal will be affected.
WE need EVERYONE there.
THESE ARE SOME OF THE ISSUES; BIG fines- NO warning for expire rabies tags automatic FINES- going into your private property without a warrant- mandatory microchip- passing the liability for pets to property owners instead of the pet owners, ONLY homeowners will be able to have dogs- Zoning limits on dogs- owner surrender, animal can be kill the minute the owner leaves them, NO 5 day adoption period- They MAY attend or MAKE RESONABLE EFFORTS to find the animal’s owner- You will need a KENNEL LICENSE if you sell one dog, breed, treat, except there is NO way to apply for a kennel license NONE has been issue for the last 13 years, so it will be another automatic fine.
WE NEED EDUCATION NOT MORE FINES!!!!!
PEOPLE this will give Animal services FULL governmental control.
NO excuses (call in sick, cancel ANY appointment, and get a babysitter)
BE THERE your pet needs your VOICE and your VOTE.
If you do have any excuse not to go tell it to YOUR PET!!!!! And the many animals killed at Animal Control."

People who rent won't be able to have pets if this bill passes. Even if you don't live in Dade County, you can email the county commissioners. If they hear that tourism dollars will be affected, they may reconsider. I am worried about what would happen to all the pets that now belong to renters. What does owning a home have to do with the right to have pets?

This is not one of those things that 'could never happen'. 5 minutes from me, they have passed legislation that certain breeds, ALL, INCLUDING THOSE THAT HAVE UP TILL NOW BEEN HOUSEPETS, must be kept outside in a 10' x 10' enclosure of a specific construction. This would include Astrid, if I lived 5 minutes from my current address. Please.......EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE, must guard their rights to have the pets that enrich our lives!

Astrid,we just read your post about dog laws in North Carolina. What county has such ridiculous legislation How dare they - maybe those making the law should have to live outside in a 10 x 10 enclosue.
If anyone else lives in a county with restrictive dog legislation, please post about it. I think we should all know what is going on in different parts of the country. It is starting to get scary.

This was 5 minutes away from me in South Carolina....Rock Hill is the name of the town, I'd have to check the county. Being the mom of a Rottie/mix, I find the legislation very scary. It's also hard to keep up with it all without going to the BSL sites (Breed Specific Legislation) and researching ones own locale. I think posting about here would help a lot. While researching Charlotte, I found they were considering BSL regarding rottweilers at one time. It is all very scary and we should all realize that life, as we know it, could change in a heartbeat.

Our house insurance refused to continue insuring our house because we have 2 shepherds, and were not allowed to have more than 4 dogs, oh and my dad almost got arrested because the dogs were barking at a possum, now their not allowed to bark either because their "disturbing the peace"... this is all just getting ridiculous!
