Here is the link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21314709/ I'm not sure I understand the point here.

Sounds like the typical violation of adoption agreement. while it seems harsh, those rules are in place for the benefit of the pet. When we adopted Rudy, I said I could get a kid out of China easier. We had a home vist, vet check, reference check, and I kid, a blood test and background check! THEN I became one of those wackos!! The pet has been through enough. As adopters, we need to make sure you have the right type of home and stability to properly care for the pet. Ellen (admitedly) was WRONG to rehome the dog. She should have notified the adoption agency and recommended the family. They can apply to adopt the dog, and would probably get it.

What was missing was any reference to any desire by the shelter to initate the process of finding out if the family was a suitable home. I understand the rules part and that Ellen violated the rules, but the shelter should be focused more on the best outcome for this poor dog.

This poor little dog!! Going from one home to another and the shelter. I honestly hope that that rescue org. will allow that family (if they are the right ones) to adopt that dog. Ellen already paid all that money to have him neutered and some training. They shouldn't even charge that new family to adopt the dog. They already have their money. I even heard on Paul Harvey news today, "Please return Iggy to those girls." Word sure gets around. Hopefully, the little dog will be "home" soon.

I think this is such a sad situtation and is giving rescue a bad name. Those women with the rescue need to get some common sense and return the dog. I just hate it when a place uses policy and not common sense when placing dogs.

I heard today that Iggy went to another family (not Ellen's hairdresser). I guess the rescuer got paid a second time for this dog...hmmmmm And come on, they won't place a small dog with children under the age of 14? I teach 13-14 year olds and I would rather a child of 10 or 11 learn about dog responsibility; by the time a child is 14 they are more interested in their friends than a dog. Only my opinion...

Ellen broke a contract, period. Should be end of story. Common sense doesn't replace the need for binding agreements (because some lack it) if it did DC would be a big dog park, shelters are full of of dogs that were once adopted. While I don't agree with their age thing, it is theirs to declare, if people don't like it then they can start their own rescue and adopt out to younger and they can overlook agreements based on celebrity status. Nothing against Ellen but if she was so great at matchmaking for dogs and families, how did any of this come about anyway? On a personal note, when the first talk of suits and death threats came in that would've ruined it for the family anyway, by association. It's a volunteers time (and they put in enormous effort) and the only goal is to have a happy pup. To think they should have to put up with this? I think with my new dog my adoption fee will be around 200$ After feeding, vetting, training, cleaning up pee and poop (inside and out), training, travel, destroyed furniture...... do I need to go on? it isnt alot of money so the idea of getting paid is a joke. Sorry about the rant but these people were giving their time for these dogs long before Ellen decided to adopt and now all of a sudden they are the bad guys simply because they refuse to bend the rules for a famous person.

Did anyone happen to see the bit on the TV news last evening (I'm on the east coast)- where the other lady who adopted from the same place regained her dog after having left it with a friend while on vacation.. Apparently Moms and Mutts didn't think that this was appropriate... so they reclaimed the dog...then as the story went on, within the signed contract, the bottom line states that ultimately the shelter has the rights to the dog. So the adoptive person(s) are just the "caregivers". That is INSANE and WRONG. And in my opinion, this whole "celebrity" ideal is reading $$$ for the media attention that it's been given and will continue to get.

Didn't she go on a strike and tell everyone she wouldn't speak until this was resolved?
