I am not sure if this will be allowed but I have to write to say how I feel about Michael Vick and the cruelty that has been done to a wonderful breed of dog. I have Rottweilers but this could easily happen to them or any other breed depending on who the owner is. This is why a lot of people want to ban the Pitt Bull and it is not fair. I don't know if there are any Pitt Bull owners on this site but I do remmember how Colorado put a ban on Pitt Bulls and actually went to Vets found out who owned them and made the owners turn them over to be put to sleep and the law was on the side of the state because of the Ban. Can you imagine someone coming and taking you sweet lab or golden retreiver simply because your senators or house of representative official decided to ban your breed of dog. We need to stand together to stop the cruelty to animals and punish the Deed not the Breed. It makes me sick to also know how little jail time Vick will get if found guilty simply because he was cruel to dogs. It has been found that someone that abuses and tortures animals will later do the same thing to humans. Humans need to know they can get stiffer penalties when found guilty of abusing and torturing dogs.

They have also tried to do it to Rottweilers. The problem is that the people doing this do it underground, meaning you have to know how to get into the circles to hear about dog fights, they don't advertise. I would hate to have to even pretend to be interested in dog fighting just to catch the evil people doing it. I briefly saw a clip and when I heard the loosing dog's cries I had to stop the clip and then I cried my eyes out. I have said it before and I will say it again that animals are more humane than humans and we humans are more animalistic than most animals. They want to ban breeds of Dogs when I think they should ban humans.

A member forwarded me the story last night - I couldn't believe it. The NFL let him continue to play - as nothing had happened. BTW: we are offering free ads to rescue groups - so if anyone know a good Rottweilers group - let them know. More details is in the Rescue forum.

I hope they prosecute and punish him, to the FULLEST extent of the law. The HSUS initiated a campaign to persuade the NFL to punish Michael Vick appropriately. Now that a grand jury has indicted him on federal animal fighting charges, including reports of extreme cruelty to dogs who weren't aggressive enough. Contact NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and ask to suspend Michael Vick immediately. Visit: https://community.hsus.org/campaign/US_2007_dogfighting_nfl2?rk=cpqqbNE1Nbs8W

Maybe if they add up all the dogs burried on his property and give him the maxium times the number of dog bodies then I might me happy but to me the fullest extent of the law is just very lacking. We need to change the fact that dogs are considered property to actually being family members and get the punishment much higher. My two Rotties are my kids and to think of anyone doing abusive things to Freedom and Justice just sickens me and makes me very aggressive!

I posted a blog with a link yesterday about this....I am still numb about it! I read so many articles last night (just typed dogfighting in my address bar and what came up was unbelievable!) that I finally just shut off my computer because I was seething! I also sent an email to the NFL. A copy of what I sent and the link to the NFL email is also on my blog so if anyone is so inclined to copy it and send as well, please do! Dog fighting, breed bans! When is it going to stop!? We, as humans, chose to domestic and make these living creatures our companions over 12,000 years ago. We have an obligation to care for them and treat them with the respect a living thing deserves ...................... I'm all for pushing this......I'll do more than my part!

I have already written to the NFL several times. Thank you for also writing to them I would really like to see no one show up for any game where Vick is even on the sideline. Or if they go to be sure and BOOOOOOOO really loudly every time he goes on the field and cheer really loudly every time he is tackled and sepecially when he is sacked. Oh I am so boiling mad every time I think about the abuse and torture those dogs endured!

Vick makes me absolutely sick! My husband and I own three wonderful American Pit Bull Terriers and they are the most amazing dogs in the world! These sick people that fight these poor dogs really deserve a lot more than jail time and fines! They need to abuse, neglect, starve and torture Vick, make him fight for his life and then if he lives they need to stick him in a cold, tiny kennel for a few days before he's put to sleep! People like that don't even deserve to live, in my opinion anyway! "Pit bulls" (American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers) are three of the most stable, people-friendly breeds in existence and that's a fact! They are amazing dogs and they don't deserve the horrible name that people like Vick are giving them! In temperament testing APBTs test way higher than many popular family breeds such as Goldens and Beagles and they are one of the best breeds to have with children! Also, "pit bulls" are three of the only breeds that have been bred specifically to be amazingly human friendly! Back when these dogs were originally bred to fight dogs and bull bait any dogs that showed any signs of human aggression were typically killed, that way only human friendly dogs were bred. These dogs were bred to fight dogs so, if they are not properly socialized they do tend to be dog aggressive, but never human aggressive! The owners had to be able to be in the pits with their dogs as they were fighting and these dogs had to be handled before, during and after the fights. In addition, most of these dogs were family pets as well! The three breeds that are grouped as "pit bulls" are truly three amazing breeds that have ended up with a horrible name because they have been sooo mistreated! No breed deserves to be abused, neglected, tortured and fought like that and no breed deserves to be banned! People need to learn the truth about these wonderful dogs instead of believing all of the crazy myths and over dramatic, twisted media stories and we need to stop all of this animal abuse and fight BSL!

I feel the same way you do about Vick APBTMommy, I would dearly love to see him tortured like he tortured his dogs. It makes me so angry every time I even think about him and I just hope and pray his high priced lawyers can't get him off. I would love to see him on the streets without a dime to his name.

I hope and pray that he gets what he deserves as well, but we all know that people like Vick can pretty much get away with murder! You know, another thing that makes me really mad is when I see all of these kids thinking that because Vick was fighting his dogs he was staying "real" and they are even bigger fans now! That's sick and it's really sad that people think like that! I can't stand Vick or any fan or supporter of Vick! Check out this video, I thought it was cute! lol! http://youtube.com/watch?v=XBuEBHi3BzU That's what Vick deserves! But instead of one nice pit ripping him apart, they need to let all of his dogs that were abused and tortured rip him apart!

You know, one of the things that is so scary about this dog fighting crap is that it's not always gang bangers, drug dealers, etc. Dog fighting is a big money business, some of these champion fighting dogs sell for over $20,000! A lot of these people are rich people that have the money to buy and fight these dogs and/ or bet on them. This needs to be stopped before it gets even more out of hand!

I sent an email around to as many of my email friends as I could about this situation with Michael Vick. Personally I think he is a disgusting human being. I called for a ban against his products... a ban against his team and if they still don't get rid of him a ban against the NFL. We need to take a stand against people that abuse animals. WE are their only voice. They don't have anyone to stick up for them. Get out there and blog/post do whatever you have to do to get the message across. It really only takes one person... so keep the fire going. I do not want that man to EVER play foot ball again. Pittbulls are not born killers... the are born sweet innocent puppies.... if they are trained and cared for they make GREAT pets.

Here in texas so many people are afraid of Rottweilers and Pit bulls and THIS is why! The breed has the potential to become mean, yes BUT only if you raise them to be mean. They are used in fighting because of their strong bodies and strong attitude.Rots and Pits are some of the SWEETEST dogs! I think anyone who abuses animals in ANY way should get the same as someone who abuses children! Its all the same, pets can't defend themselves agaist humans very well so its not fair at all. Hopefully america will wake up and realize IT IS A SERIOUS CRIME!

I too would like to see people that abuse animals get the same as if they had abused a child but as long as the law see's animals as property in most cases abuse of animals it is only a misdemeanor. People like Vick if convicted will only get 7 years for all the dogs he killed or had killed. The only reason he is getting that much is the crossing state lines.

That means he worked out a deal where he is only going to get a couple of years in prison it that. The only thing we can hope for is that it has ruined his football career and he never has a dime to his name for doing what he did to those poor babies that didn't want to fight and even the ones that were doing what their master wanted and fought to the death or died from wounds received in a fight and even for the poor babies that because of being Vick's dogs will be put down because they can't be trusted with other dogs and small children so they can never be adopted. I personally hope that he gets put in a prison with alot of animal lovers and they make his time in prison hell. He should never be allowed to ever have another dog in his possession.

"Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of guilty to those charges and to accept full responsibility for his actions and the mistakes he has made," Martin said in a statement. "Michael wishes to apologize again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter." ............ HE ORIGINALLY SAID HE WAS INNOCENT ...... (This is in an AP release). Great job to everyone who spoke up in emails, I know I did to Nike and via the Humane Society Petition. You can be heard if you present yourself in numbers and do it rationally. The good that can come of this disgusting situation is that new light is shed on this underground abuse and murder.

They are estimating 12-18 months of "vacation" time for him. Wouldn't his time be better spent working in a shelter for abused dogs, where he has to take care of THEM? And maybe witness the damage of his actions?

Sign this virtual thank you card to the prosecution team from the Humane Society who was a huge driving force behind it all: https://community.hsus.org/humane/notice-description.tcl?newsletter_id=14118476 I also agree he should have to serve some ADDITIONAL time doing community service work with abused dogs. Great idea Tina.

I wish the prosecution would do about 15 minutes of research on the history of dogs, perhaps if realized that there is a very real possibility someone on the higher branches of their family tree owed their life to a dog and they grasp what that implies maybe they would push for a tougher sentence. They are missing a potential example to be made here from the high profile case, lock him down for 5-7 and some dog fighters may have some second thoughts.
